Liverpool have agreed a deal worth just over £100m guaranteed for Bradley Barcola, with performance-based add-ons taking the total package to approximately £120m. The breakthrough came after late-night negotiations on Wednesday, with PSG showing willingness to lower their original £145m asking price.
Barcola has been Liverpool's main transfer target throughout the summer window, but the significant gap between the clubs' valuations had proven a major hurdle. The compromise reached on Wednesday should allow the 23-year-old to complete his move before Tuesday's transfer deadline.
If the deal goes through, Barcola would become Liverpool's second-most expensive signing behind the £125m Alexander Isak.
Barcola's PSG Situation
Barcola has found himself increasingly marginalised at Paris Saint-Germain despite having two years remaining on his contract. The French champions have significantly strengthened their attacking options this summer, signing Ferran Torres, Maghnes Akliouche and Mika Godts.
Manager Luis Enrique has preferred a front line of Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in PSG's biggest matches, prompting Barcola to consider his options. The winger has already informed the club that he will not sign a contract extension and has been omitted from matchday squads this season.
PSG originally signed Barcola for €45m from Lyon in 2023, and he has played a prominent role in the club's rise to Champions League winners.
Cody Gakpo's Future in Doubt
The arrival of Barcola would intensify speculation about Cody Gakpo's future at Anfield. Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has admitted he cannot guarantee the Netherlands international will remain a Liverpool player beyond Tuesday's deadline.
"When the market is open you cannot guarantee anything with anyone," Iraola said. "I don't know what is going to happen with any of our players. I cannot guarantee anything."
Gakpo has attracted interest from Tottenham and Manchester City, and could be sold if Liverpool bring in two wingers before the deadline closes.
Liverpool's Remaining Transfer Priorities
Despite the Barcola breakthrough, Liverpool still have work to do before Tuesday's deadline. The club has yet to land a direct replacement for Mohamed Salah on the right wing, having had two bids rejected by Brighton for Yankuba Minteh.
Liverpool have also enquired about Ismaïla Sarr's availability at Crystal Palace but have not made a formal offer so far.
Iraola is also keen to strengthen other departments given the long-term absences of right back Conor Bradley and striker Hugo Ekitike. "Ideally is the magic word," Iraola said. "We don't know what we can do but it's true the priority has been mostly in the wide areas."
